Opinion Weekdays #8: Daniel Radcliffe Is Amazing!
Daniel Radcliffe, known to literally everyone because of ‘Harry Potter’, has luckily been able to push through his fame from that one franchise and prove himself to be a really talented actor.
We are f*cking blessed. Daniel is f*cking brilliant.
A good actor must be able to get into and explore any character. Unfortunately, typecasting is real in the industry and many artists limit themselves by only portraying certain types of characters and/or being only in specific genre films.
Not Daniel Radcliffe. He strives daily and develops himself greatly through every new project he takes upon. They are all different, as are the characters he is portraying. And he is really freaking good as all of them. That’s real talent. And it’s worth mentioning.
Daniel Radcliffe, only 29, is already one of Hollywood’s best chameleons. Every role he takes, he nails, no matter how different it may be.
(Sidenote: Some of his projects may not be great. Daniel’s acting in them, however, is.)
Here are some examples.
‘Horns’, where Radcliffe is literally the Devil. This is a massive difference from Harry Potter and unlike anything we would’ve expected from this British sweetheart. The film, I personally thought, was quite good and Radcliffe beautifully sustained a great character arc.
‘Swiss Army Man’, where Radcliffe plays a dead body and manages to keep it interesting. This is surely one of the best films of 2016 and arguably Daniel’s best performance. He brings to life a character who is literally meant to be dead. Now that’s something.
‘Imperium’, where he plays a detective that infiltrates a group of neo-Nazis. Again, after ‘Harry Potter’, being in a thriller film isn’t something we would’ve normally expected from Radcliffe. And yet, he explores that, too. And yeah, he nails it; again different, again brilliant, again interesting.
‘Jungle’, where Radcliffe goes full Dicaprio as he is left stranded in the Bolivian jungle. Yeah, it’s not the best film, but nevertheless Daniel nails it out of the park. He pays homage to the real person, explores some really tough emotions, and actually does a pretty good job with that accent.
You get the point.
Daniel Radcliffe is really good. He keeps choosing really interesting characters and progressively develops his acting skills through them. The truly beautiful thing is, Daniel Radcliffe doesn’t have a typecast; he’s just good.
Like my Lily James article, this is really just a short praise on Daniel Radcliffe. I do think that he’s a really overlooked actor, mainly because he keeps picking indies for projects (which is actually kinda awesome), but mark my words: that Oscar is coming one day. Radcliffe is great and will keep getting better. We should not forget that. In fact, we should actively follow Daniel Radcliffe’s career: it’s definitely going somewhere amazing.
