Opinion Weekdays #4: ‘The 100’ Season 6 Will Be Very Different
Alright, first off, if you don’t watch ‘The 100’ already, you should. It’s a fantastic show, one of the best currently on TV, and it’s wildly overlooked. Definitely check it out if you haven’t yet; it’s worth your time.
You can read more of my thoughts on ‘The 100’ here. Also, there are spoilers below, so if you haven’t reached season 5, episode 11 of the show yet, I suggest you stop reading now.
This latest season of ‘The 100’ has already been a massive change. It’s a huge jump forward, there’s a new environment, and some of the characters have changed drastically over the six year period between season 4 and season 5. Clarke is now a mom, Monty is in a committed relationship, Abby is a drug-addict, and Octavia is a psycho. A lot has happened.
And yet, we can’t stop wondering about season 6. More specifically…
Eligius 3.
The Eligius Corporation’s purpose was not only to do mining missions, but also search for habitable planets. It’s mentioned in one episode that Eligius 3 settled on a planet with two suns. Raven didn’t successfully hack the files she found on Eligius IV and Spacekru/Wonkru/Clarke still don’t know what’s really up with Eligius 3. The only people that possibly know are Diyoza and some of her men. Also Shaw, based on his smirk when Raven mentioned her unsuccessful attempt at finding out what Eligius 3 did exactly.
A popular theory has been that Eligius 3 settled on another planet and have built a colony there for the past 100 or so years. And yeah, I support this theory. There has been extensive foreshadowing throughout season 5 about Eligius 3 and it’s impossible that the ship doesn’t somehow tie majorly to where the show is going next.
The theory goes on to say that at this end of this current fifth season, people from Eligius 3 will pop-up back to Earth. Two possibilities follow:
One, somehow Octavia has made an agreement with Diyoza/McCreary and the valley remains safe. The two parties have found a way to peacefully share it. Some are still not happy, but hey, that’s life.
Two, Octavia fights McCreary and they destroy the last habitable place on Earth. Everything is in ruins and the survivors have no idea what to do.
Personally, I think the second option is more likely. It would be very ridiculous and, quite frankly, disappointing if Octavia suddenly decides not to fight. Her character development has been flawless this season; we don’t like her, but we understand her, which is the ultimate goal for any antagonist. I would hate it if something happens that makes her suddenly realize that ‘she’s been wrong all along’.
Also, if the two parties find a way to peacefully share the valley, there isn’t much motivation for anyone to go with the Eligius 3 people to this new planet.
So it’s all adding up to a fight. A fight that will end with the destruction of Eden.
After set fight, Eligius 3 people will pop-up. They will present the survivors with an option: stay on Earth or come to this ‘new planet’ and start a new life.
I think some will choose to stay on Earth. Perhaps a very small bit of Eden has survived and some people may live there after all? I highly doubt that ALL people will go on the ship and move planets. Nah, only certain protagonists will choose to do so. And just to make things more interesting for myself, here’s what I think will happen to our main characters:
- Clarke, Bellamy, Abby, Kane, Raven, Shaw, Murphy, Emori, Echo, and Diyoza will go to the new planet.
- Monty, Harper, and Indra will stay on Earth.
- Octavia and McCreary will die.
- Madi will either go with Clarke or die. Genuinely no idea. I think it makes sense for her to die, but I also don’t think the writers have the balls to kill a kid of the show.
And throw some random battle people into the mix as well. So, at the end of season 5, or perhaps a bit later, some of our protagonists will head to this new paradise with their saviors from Eligius 3.
This will make the next season drastically different. It also provides so many new opportunities. New characters will be introduced, new environments, new politics, new conflicts, and so much more. The writers may possibly even set a completely different sci-fi-ish tone to the show. And if executed well, I bet this will be very interesting and fun to watch.
So I can’t wait for season 6 of ‘The 100’. Whatever happens, it will be extremely different and (probably) really freaking amazing.
