Oscars 2018: ‘The Shape of Water’ Wins Best Picture

‘The Shape of Water’ wins the Oscar for Best Picture during the 90th Academy Awards.

In the speech Guillermo del Toro said he was proud to be a filmmaker and dedicated the award to all young filmmakers. He also made a great door metaphor. The producers of the movie said that ‘Guillermo is art’.

Our Movie Life is once again disagreeing with the Academy on this one. As mentioned in this news post, we think ‘The Shape of Water’ is a tad overrated. In fact, it didn’t even make out ‘Top 10 of 2017‘ list. We believe that the film that truly deserves the Oscar for Best Picture is ‘I, Tonya’; that was a flawless movie that exceeded everyone’s expectations and raised the bar extremely high. No other movie this past year is as good as ‘I, Tonya’. Unfortunately, the Academy did not even nominate Craig Gillespie’s production for an Oscar. If we have to choose from those nominated, our pick still does not go to ‘The Shape of Water’. In that case, ‘Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri’ stands in our hearts; that was also an amazing production on every level that not only does everything ‘The Shape of Water’ does, but does it far better.
