Oscars 2018: Guillermo del Toro Wins Best Director
Guillermo del Toro wins the Oscar for Best Director during the 90th Academy Awards for directing ‘The Shape of Water’.
In his speech, he said that he is an immigrant like many in the industry. He mentioned how many thought that ‘Shape of Water’ script was ridiculous. He thanked his colleagues, family, and friends.
Our Movie Life completely disagrees with the Academy on this one. We understand that it’s an unpopular opinion, but we think that ‘The Shape of Water’ is a tad overrated. We think the same of del Toro’s direction of the film. In fact, he is not ever nominated for directing in OurMovieLife’s awards. We strongly believe that the best directing of the year award should go to Craig Gillespie for ‘I, Tonya’. His direction of that film was absolutely brilliant: he managed to combine a captivating story, an interesting narrative, and stayed utterly original, thus making one of the best movies of the year. Sadly, Gillespie is not even nominated for an Oscar. However, if we had to choose from those nominated, our pick for best director still wouldn’t go to del Toro. In that case, our award goes to Jordan Peele for directing ‘Get Out’. He too succeeded in creating a captivating masterpiece that quickly became a modern classic. Unlike ‘The Shape of Water’, which will be forgotten in two years.
