‘Game of Thrones’ Prediction: Will Jon and Dany Meet?
A new segment is launching on Our Movie Life! During the next two months, I will be publishing a ‘Game of Thrones’ prediction each Tuesday. The prediction may concern a certain character, a certain event, or just answer a long asked question by fans of the series. Enjoy.
THIS POST IS DARK AND FULL OF SPOILERS!
This week we’ll be discussing whether Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen will finally meet each other in season 7. Fans of the show and the book alike have been waiting for these two iconic characters to finally have a common scene, but until very recently, Dany was on Essos and Jon was stuck at the Wall. Now, the khaleesi has reached Westeros and the Lord Commander has gone to Winterfell and has become King of the North, so a meet-and-greet is not only possible, but plausible.
Many were sure that the two characters meet this season because paparazzi photographed a while ago a scene in which you can clearly see Jon, Dany, Tyrion, Davos, and some dothraki men standing on a beach next to a boat. Look at the photo below.
The rumors were quickly disproved after a few actors said that since the producers knew paparazzi were around, they would order the actors to shoot ‘fake scenes’. No one has said specifically which scenes are fake, but many believe that this particular statement was issued because of the photos of Dany and Jon. Watch an interview with Kit Harington below to understand exactly what I’m talking about.
However, I think that’s a complete lie. I doubt any fake scenes were shot, I think the actors are just saying that because they don’t want the public to know what’s happening later on in the season. I think those paparazzi pictures are in fact real and I’ll explain why now.
In the latest episode, Sam finds out that there is dragonglass in Dragonstone and sends a raven to Jon with this new information. In the trailer for episode 2, we see that Jon is arguing with Lord Royce, one of the older northerners, who is saying that ‘A Targaryen cannot be trusted’.
I believe that the raven Sam sent will have reached Jon by the next episode. Jon will now know that there is dragonglass in Dragonstone and he will probably know that Dany has taken exactly that castle as her ‘headquarters’ (rumors spread quickly in Westeros). In Jon’s eyes, dragonglass is the most important thing right now and he is willing to do anything to get it. Thus, he will probably tell everyone that he wants to go to Dragonstone to make an alliance with Dany in order to get the obsidian. This is exactly why Lord Royce will say that a Targaryen cannot be trusted, because he has probably lived through the war with the Mad King, remembers it, and thus still thinks that all Targaryens are very untrustworthy. He, and many other older northerners, will probably oppose Jon for his decision to go to Dragonstone, but the King of the North won’t care: he must get dragonglass at all costs.
So, I think the paparazzi photographs above are from the beach on Dragonstone (the same beach Dany dramatically touched when she finally reached Westeros) and I think that Jon will certainly go there aiming to take the dragonglass from the castle. How the two characters will trust each other and what will Dany want in return, I don’t know for sure, but I think I made a strong case as to why they will meet this season.
