Why You Should Rewatch ‘Avatar’

‘Avatar’!
James Cameron recently announced the dates for the upcoming four sequels of the 2009 blockbuster ‘Avatar’. They are as follows: December 18, 2020, December 17, 2021, December 20, 2024 and December 19, 2025! This, plus the mention of ‘Avatar’ in my recent ‘Top 10 Billion Dollar Grossing Movies’, got me thinking…
In short, ‘Avatar’ is amazing.
Most of you have surely seen this movie. After all, it almost made three billion dollars. That’s why this week’s recommendation is to rewatch it. It’s worth it, trust me. This movie came out in 2009 and the CGI is still one of the best ever. The production as a whole is just so ahead of its time. James Cameron uses brilliant and profound metaphors to touch on very important subjects and succeeds to do so in an entertaining, yet meaningful manner.
You can always get something more from this movie. Its multiple layers of story enable it to present something new to the viewer every time they rewatch it. Surely, after two years, I’ll gain something through watching ‘Avatar’ that I wasn’t able to gain today.
The production is truly spectacular on every level: the cinematography, the CGI, the multiple genius story arcs, the characters, everything. It’s a feast for the eyes. It’s one of the best stories ever. And it’s told in one of the best ways ever.
I’m going to end this by telling you a story about my father. He’s a bit of a movie maniac. However, he absolutely loathes films that have any sort of fantasy element in them. Seriously, he can’t watch ‘The Dark Knight’ because ‘the main guy is wearing a bat suit’. And yet, ‘Avatar’ is one of his all time favorite movies.
That right there tells you why you should (re)watch this movie.
