There are currently 29 films ever made to have made more than a billion dollars in total grossing. I wanted to make a conclusive top 10 of those total 29 films, but that turned out to be harder than I thought. Most of those movies are amazing and narrowing the list down to my ten favorites and then ranking them turned out to be a very hard task. Nevertheless, I’m up for the challenge. So, without further ado, here are my top 10 billion dollar grossing movies.
10. ‘Zootopia’
‘Zootopia’ actually made my ‘Top 5 Movies of 2016’ list. I think this is a fantastic animation, one of the best I’ve seen in last five years. The film is really funny, the CGI is fantastic, and it’s very interesting to watch. It’s also full of genius metaphors and thus provides a little something for adults as well. It presents and develops important subjects of today’s modern world and does so in a genius, lighthearted, and fully entertaining way.
9. ‘Titanic’
‘Titanic’ is so amazing, generally, for two reason. One, for 1997, this film was a complete revelation. The production design, the costumes, the music, and just the overall massiveness of this project were overwhelming to most people and thus the movie is cherished so much. Two, ‘Titanic’ is nearly perfect on every level. It’s written, directed, acted, etc., nearly flawless and I dare you to find one category where this movie flops. Hence, amazing.
8. ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’
No, you will not be seeing ‘The Avengers’ on this list. Yes, I am one of those weirdos that actually likes the second Avengers movie more than the first one. The thing I love most about this movie, you know, besides how epic and awesome the whole team-up is, are the philosophical questions that it poses and the way it poses them. I am truly astonished that a superhero movie was able to touch on such important subject and do so in such an interesting way.
7. ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’
This movie only goes so far up this list because of the revolution it started. Because it exists, so many fans are able to once again enjoy the magic of ‘Star Wars’. Because this production was so good, so many more will get made and the epic story will continue. Plot-wise, the movie wasn’t the least bit original, but it wasn’t bad either, so I’m generally very happy with the way it turned out.

6. ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest’
I actually rewatched all the Pirates of the Caribbean movies quite recently and reached the conclusion that every time I watch them again, I love them even more. Honestly, this is one of my all time favorite franchises, standing above such as ‘Star Wars’ and ‘The Matrix’. And ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest’ is my favorite film out of them all. It’s a funny, witty, original, and exciting. You can’t help but cheer up or feel even more awesome than before after watching a ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ movie. It’s a good entertaining movie and we should value that a lot.
5. ‘The Dark Knight’
‘The Dark Knight’ is one of the best superhero movies ever made. It’s perfect on every level and it was a complete game changer for the superhero genre. Plot-wise, this is one of the best told movies ever made, at least in my opinion. Plus, The Joker alone makes this production a profoundly emotional experience. I’m just saying, Christopher Nolan is one of the best directors currently working in Hollywood and this is one of his best movies ever. That has got to say something.
By the way, the poster above is my favorite movie poster of all time.
4. ‘The Dark Knight Rises’
Yes, I am one of those weirdos who likes ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ more than ‘The Dark Knight’. No, I’m not a psychopath. All the things mentioned above about the second Batman movie are absolutely true here as well and, honestly, I like them both almost equally. I just think that this part is a bit more vibrant and generally more exciting. ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ was able to trigger a bigger emotional response in me than ‘The Dark Knight’ and thus it stands one place higher in my ranking.
3. ‘Avatar’
Give me an example of a movie than uses CGI better than ‘Avatar’. I dare you. I double dare you, motherf****r. (Get it?)
Truthfully though, ‘Avatar’ is as original as a movie can get. James Cameron literally created a new universe and showed to us in this movie and was able to present it perfectly in less than three hours. It’s beautiful, the plot is fantastic, and the movie touches on very important topics and does so in a genius way. Also, ‘Avatar’ somehow suits not only to those who love fantasy, but also to those who are not usually such fans of the genre. I’m just going to say this: my dad absolutely hates films that have any sort of fantastical element in them. Seriously, he can’t watch ‘The Dark Knight’ because ‘the main guy is wearing a bat suit’. And yet, ‘Avatar’ is one of his all time favorite movies. Case closed.
2. ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2’
Harry Potter is perhaps the best franchise ever made. I’m not saying it’s my favorite, but it’s certainly the most influential, the most perfectly build, the most well-made on an overall scale, etc. The eight Harry Potter movie is without a doubt the best one of them all. It’s the most amazing ending to the most amazing franchise. It’s action filled, but also dramatic and meaningful. It answers just the right amount of question. It stays true to the book, but changes things up enough to make it interesting. Honestly, I can’t find anything wrong with ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2’. It’s truthfully one of the best films I’ve ever seen.

1. ‘Lord of the Rings: Return of the King’
If someone ever asks me what my one favorite film is, ‘Lord of the Rings: Return of the King’ will be the answer. Yes, this is my all time favorite film. I’ve rewatched it dozens of times and I enjoy it 100% every time I see it again. I literally find absolutely nothing wrong with it. This is the definition of a perfect movie. It’s the only movie ever to which I would give the grade 10/10.
