Top 10 Emma Stone Movies
I know it’s Tuesday and you’re expecting a short opinion article, but I had some time on my hands, so I decided to surprise you with a Top 10 list. I used to do these ratings a long time ago. I’m happy to say that that tradition is back. And this time I’m rating all the movies Emma Stone has been in. Unlike my ‘Top 10 Leonardo DiCaprio Movies’ or my ‘Top 10 Will Smith Movies’, I’m not doing this based on Emma Stone’s acting. This rating is strictly based on how good the movie is itself and is in no way comparing Emma Stone’s acting in each of these films. So, without further a due, let’s see what are the best 10 movies Emma Stone has starred in!
10. Friends with Benefits
‘Friends with Benefits’ is one of the most famous comedies to have come out in recent years. I found the movie generally fun and entertaining, but a bit boring at times. It presented some good ideas and I liked the fact that it was ironic with itself (the whole ‘Hollywood romantic cliche’ idea they talk about throughout the movie), but it was still a bit ‘meh’ at times. And even though Emma Stone’s role is little in ‘Friends with Benefits’, it still counts. 😉
9. Magic in the Moonlight
‘Magic in the Moonlight’ is certainly not Woody Allen’s best movie. It is, however, extremely adorable, charming, and cute. The film has a wonderful nostalgic vibe. Colin Firth and Emma Stone have great chemistry which contributes to a fantastic love story. Although ‘Magic in the Moonlight’ is a bit slow at times, I found the general story interesting and entertaining.
8. The Amazing Spider-Man
I actually really like ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ (and ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’, if I have to be honest) and I don’t fully get the hate. It’s a funny and action-filled superhero movie. It doesn’t stand back to most Marvel films and I don’t understand why people don’t like it a lot. The movie has an awesome superhero vibe and I would always enjoy watching ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ with a big box of popcorn in my lap.
7. Easy A
It’s so often nowadays that films marketed as comedies are actually completely dull and don’t make you laugh once. ‘Easy A’ is one of the funniest films to have come out in recent years. It lays on an original premise, the dialogue is genius, and the acting is fantastic. Of all the movies on this list, ‘Easy A’ is probably the one where Emma Stone shines the most and stands her ground as a truly good actress.
6. Superbad
My only problem with ‘Superbad’ is that it doesn’t really know whether it wants to have a comedic vibe or a dramatic one. It’s a little tonally incoherent, especially towards the last half hour. Other than that, one of the funniest and best directed comedies I’ve ever seen. The story is funny, the dialogue is hilarious, and the acting is perfect. The movie also sends out a great message while simultaneously establishing itself as one of the funniest comedies ever made.
5. The Help
‘The Help’ touches on an important subject in today’s modern society. I have found that a lot of films that want to talk about feminism, racism, sexism, etc., achieve to do so, but don’t create a coherent story. Films present the problem and show different viewpoints that the public may not have seen, but the overall plot of the film is chaotic and incoherent because everything resolves around that one idea. The fantastic thing about ‘The Help’ is that it touches on an important subject, but manages to create a beautiful story that develops around that subject and isn’t dependent on the concept.
4. Zombieland
‘Zombieland’ is honestly one of my all time favorite films. I can watch it over and over again and I have probably watched it minimum 10 times already. It may have problems (although I honestly can’t think of any, so if anyone can, please comment down below), but its rewatchability factor is of the charts, for me at least. The only reason why this isn’t number one or number two on my list is because it targets a specific audience and doesn’t appeal to everyone. For example, my father would never watch this, even though it’s awesome. However, I wouldn’t change that. Just because the story isn’t for everyone doesn’t mean that the story is bad. The movie just won’t be able to impact that many people. You can check out my recommendation for ‘Zombieland’ here.
3. La La Land
‘La La Land’ recently entered history with 14 Oscar Nominations. It’s a masterpiece on every level. I think the second half of ‘La La Land’ is truly one of the best things I’ve even seen on the big screen. The first half I do find problems with, I think it was a bit slow and even uninteresting at times. But that’s just a nitpick. Honestly, ‘La La Land’ is a beautiful, charming, and extremely impactful movie that I will surely re-watch over and over again. By the way, do you think it can win 11 Oscars? You can also check out my ‘La La Land’ recommendation here.
2. Crazy, Stupid, Love.
Anyone who knows me knows I hate romantic movies. I think they are filled with cliches and I judged my friends who went to watch ‘Fallen’ last weekend instead of ‘La La Land’… I can honestly say that ‘Crazy, Stupid, Love.’ is not only my favorite romantic movie, but one of my favorite movies of all time. I find absolutely nothing wrong with it and think it’s a highly underrated romantic comedy. If you haven’t seen it, see it! You can also check out my recommendation for ‘Crazy, Stupid, Love.’ here.
1. Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance)
One of the best films to have come out this millennium. If I were ever to do a ‘Best Films of This Millennium’ list (wink), I would surely include ‘Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance)’. A perfect production that absolutely deserves all the awards it got. Also, even though Emma Stone shines more in ‘Easy A’ (she has the main role there after all), I think she is better in this film. This is probably her best performance ever. Even though her part is small, it’s definitely something worth seeing and remembering.

Great list. I would have replaced Magic in the Moonlight with The House Bunny though, lol.
Hahaha, maybe you’re right, I haven’t seen ‘House Bunny’ in a long time and I can’t really say.
ahh I love the movie ‘Crazy, Stupid, Love’ but haven’t actually seen any of the others
Do see them, especially ‘Birdman’ and ‘La La Land’!
Thank you for your comment. 🙂
I’m planning on seeing ‘La La Land’ in a few weeks time! and no problem 🙂
Yes!! I love Emma Stone. This might be the first Top 10 list from another blogger where I’ve actually seen every movie. Birdman was AMAZING so can’t argue with that being your #1. Crazy Stupid Love is my go-to movie when I’m feeling down in the dumps, it never fails to bring a smile to my face 🙂
Yeah, ‘Birdman’ is definitely an amazing production. And ‘Crazy, Stupid, Love.’ always makes me smile, too. 🙂
Great choices, I didn’t realise I had seen so many of her films until reading this list. Totally forgot she was in Superbad! The only one I need to catch up with Zombieland. Birdman is a worthy choice of the top spot, one of my favourite films in recent years.
Yeah, you should watch ‘Zombieland’ for sure, it’s great. 🙂
I’ll have to check if it is still available on Netflix as I am sure it was at one point!
This is awesome! 🙂
Great list! You have no idea how happy I am that you put Birdman at #1. It’s a role of hers that probably gets overlooked by many. Agreed, one of my favorite films of the decade (it helps that it was filmed a block from where I live).
Absolutely, ‘Birdman’ is an absolute masterpiece.
